Petrobras Elects Angélica Laureano as Executive Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability

With her appointment, Petrobras' Executive Board will have a female majority—an unprecedented composition in the company's history

The Board of Directors of Petrobras elected, this Friday, July 11, engineer Angélica Garcia Cobas Laureano to the position of Executive Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability. With Angélica's appointment, Petrobras’ Executive Board will now be composed of five women, including one serving as president, out of a total of nine members. This marks the first time in the company’s history that the senior management has more women than men.  

Angélica Laureano brings 45 Years of Experience, Including 37 at Petrobras, 21 in Management Roles On the Executive Board, she joins directors Clarice Coppetti, Renata Baruzzi, Sylvia Anjos, and the company’s president, Magda Chambriard.  

A Pioneer in Gender Equity

The new composition of Petrobras’ Executive Board, now with a female majority, reflects the company’s commitment to diversity and gender equity and reinforces its leading role in the Brazilian market. The study "Women in Action", published by B3 in September 2024, reveals that only 6% of the 359 companies listed on the Brazilian stock exchange have three or more women on their statutory executive boards. In 59% of These Companies, there Is no female representation on the Executive Board.  

“We are committed to increasing female participation in all sectors of Petrobras because we believe that a diverse team creates a healthier and more productive work environment.  I hope we can inspire other women to aspire to leadership positions, especially in the oil and gas sector, which remains predominantly male,” said Petrobras President Magda Chambriard   

Energy Transition

Petrobras’ Executive Office of Energy Transition and Sustainability was established in April 2023, with the goal of concentrating and enhancing the company’s efforts related to the energy transition. The area encompasses gas and energy processes, climate change, decarbonization, and renewable energy, and also works in synergy with other areas of the company in the research and development of projects related to the transition.  

“We will continue to invest heavily in decarbonization projects, the production of more sustainable fuels, and the diversification of renewable energy sources. As leaders in the energy transition, we reaffirm our commitment to achieving net-zero operational emissions by 2050,” said Angélica Laureano.

Angélica Laureano’s appointment was submitted to Petrobras’ internal corporate governance procedures, including the necessary compliance and integrity assessments required for the company’s succession process. The management term runs until 04/13/2027, the same period as the other members of the Executive Board.

Angélica worked at Petrobras in the areas of Materials, Supply, Gas and Energy, and served as President of Gaspetro, a Petrobras subsidiary in partnership with Mitsui Gás S.A., responsible for managing equity interests in 19 natural gas distribution companies across various Brazilian states. After retiring from Petrobras, she worked as a consultant on several projects in the natural gas sector. She currently holds the Presidency of Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil S.A.
