Petrobras has entered into an agreement to supply bunker fuel with renewable content (VLS B24) to the Norwegian company Odfjell, one of the world’s largest shipowners in the transportation of chemicals and liquid bulk cargo. This strategic operation strengthens the company’s position in the international low-carbon fuels market and meets the growing demand for more sustainable solutions in the maritime segment.

Petrobras’ VLS B24 is a VLSFO (Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil) composed of 24% biodiesel and 76% mineral oil produced at the company’s refineries. The product complies with international quality standards and holds the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification – EU (ISCC EU), a global system that ensures traceability, compliance with sustainability criteria, and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the biofuel production chain, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the European market.

In addition, the fuel meets the requirements of FuelEU Maritime, a European Union regulation that mandates a progressive reduction in the GHG intensity of fuels used by ships calling at European ports, encouraging the use of renewable and low-carbon solutions.

“The commercialization of VLS B24 with a company that has a strong international presence demonstrates Petrobras’ consistent progress toward a low-carbon market, in synergy with our 2026–2030 Business Plan. The initiative not only generates value for the business, but also enables concrete solutions in new energies and decarbonization, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” says Petrobras’ Director of Logistics, Marketing and Markets, Claudio Schlosser.

Supply will be carried out by dedicated barges from the Rio Grande Terminal (TERIG), where the product blending will also take place. The contract provides for the delivery of up to 12 thousand tons throughout 2026.

Odfjell, a Norwegian company with operations on routes across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, is a benchmark in the maritime transport of chemicals and liquid bulk cargo. It has offices in strategic locations, including São Paulo, supporting its activities in South America. With a fleet of more than 70 vessels, Odfjell transports around 600 types of liquids — ranging from chemicals and acids to edible oils and clear petroleum products — serving clients from major oil companies to smaller logistics firms.

The relationship between Petrobras and Odfjell, marked by a history of collaboration, gained new momentum with the joint initiative of the Brazilian and Norwegian governments to promote sustainable solutions in the energy sector. This movement resulted in the creation of a green corridor between the two countries, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2025, which encourages the circulation of vessels powered by low-carbon fuels.
