Petrobras, PetroReconcavo, Brava Energia and Origem Energia have signed long-term amendments to agreements governing access to natural gas processing at the Catu Natural Gas Processing Unit (UTG Catu), located in Pojuca, Bahia, and operated by Petrobras. The amendments take effect immediately and ensure the continued processing of gas production, providing greater predictability for the sector and reinforcing the facility’s strategic role in the energy produced in Bahia.

UTG Catu is essential infrastructure for transporting and processing natural gas produced in Bahia’s onshore fields. In addition to contributing to the country’s energy security, the facility supports the regional economy and generates benefits for local communities.

"In Bahia, the initiative helps attract investment, optimize existing resources and create favorable conditions for the sector’s long-term growth,” says Petrobras’ Executive Manager for Exploration and Production, Stênio Galvão.

Among the key developments is the extension, starting in 2028, of the period for which processing capacity is guaranteed, a measure that provides greater predictability for the parties involved and enhances the operational reliability of UTG Catu.

The partnership also provides for updates to the commercial and operational terms of the agreements, with a focus on reducing costs and making better use of the region’s natural gas infrastructure. The agreement underscores the benefits of free enterprise in developing solutions that combine efficiency, predictability and greater utilization of existing assets.

"The understanding between the companies reaffirms the importance of shared infrastructure as a means of increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the natural gas market,” says Petrobras’ Executive Manager for Gas and Energy, Álvaro Tupiassu.

"The cooperation between Petrobras and independent producers represents a step forward for our industry. By strengthening the sharing of existing infrastructure, the agreement enhances the competitiveness of Brazil’s onshore sector, increasing operational efficiency, improving the reliability of the unit, and promoting the continuous modernization of processes, systems and equipment,” says PetroReconcavo CEO José Firmo.

With this initiative, the companies reinforce their commitment to increasingly contributing to the economic and social development of the regions where they operate, as well as to a more open, competitive, liquid and efficient natural gas market.
